Getting traffic to visit your website is never easy, and increasing website traffic is the lifeblood of your online business.  Without visitors you have no one to view your offer and therefore no buyers.  The goal is always to attract more visitors.  

A great way to add interest to your website (and thereby attract more visitors) is to create a character to represent your website.  The character (or ‘mascot’, if you will) can create a fun element to your website that your visitors will enjoy.

The character you create should relate to what your website is about.  For instance, if you have a travel website, you could create a comic character with a world globe for a head.  Or perhaps you have a website about pets—wouldn’t a dog or cat character be appropriate in this case?  If you have a more serious website about writing, a feathered pen character may be in order.  In the case of a financial website, maybe a comedic dollar bill or dollar sign may suit your website.  Of course, these are only examples of what you may come up with to suit your website.  There are many other possibilities.  

A comic character attracts visitors because it adds a different and fun element to your website.  People searching the web are looking for information, whether it is a product or service they want or simply a question they need answered.  But, they also can be easily bored by too much seriousness.  Giving them a comic character to look at may allow them to stay a little longer on your website, and therefore view your offer a bit better.

Having a character makes your website different from the many other websites out there that may have the same theme as yours.  It creates a ‘branding’ that points to you and your website and makes your website easily identifiable. It makes you stand out and be different from your competition.  People visiting your website will remember the character and look for it again when they are searching for more information or products in the same area.  

The character you create for your website can simply be in your logo, or you can use the character in different ways throughout the site.  The character can point out different ‘specials’ you may have to offer.  It may point out tidbits of information that may be of interest to the visitor.  It may direct your visitor towards the ‘check-out’ carts for the sale.  The character may also just add a bit of comedy that will attract visitors back to your site to see what the character has to say next.

You can create a character that is easily identifiable to your website yourself.  Just doodle a few drawings and select and scan one of your masterpieces for your site.  Or you can hire a graphic artist to create one for you.  This needn’t be an expensive endeavor, depending how far you want to take the character.  You may even want to visit a local high school art class and have the students create a character for you (as a school project).

Having a character represent your website can truly attract more visitors to your site.  Fun is the name of the game where visitors are concerned, so that they will stay on your site long enough to view your selling offer.  Creating a character helps to brand your website in your visitors’ minds and makes for a great website traffic solution.
